Brother James Vernon Brooke: PM 1961-62

1924-2018

Most of you will be aware of the Passing of Brother Jim to the Grand Lodge above on Friday the 5th of January 2018 was a sad moment in the history of Lodge Knightswood. In fact, Jim was the History of Lodge Knoghtswood.

Brother Jim was our Mother Lodge's first Entered Apprentice on the 21/9/1951, he was raised to a Fellow of the Craft on Friday the 22/10/1951, raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason on 22/11/1951.

Brother Jim worked his way through all the appropirate Offices, and was Installed as Right Worshipfull Master of His Mother Lodge, Lodge Knightswood Glasgow No1445 on Friday the 6/12/1961, thus becoming our First Initiate to be installed as Right Worshipful Master.

Brother Brooke was a very loyal and active Brother and Office Beaerer, and held Office as Almoner for Many, Many years, until he had to retire from office due to his advancing years, but still managed along when he could to our Lodge Meetings, as and when he was able to, and up until not long before his passing to the Grand Lodge Above.

May you have Eternal Rest Brother Jim, you have more than paid your Dues for entry to that Eternal Dwelling.

Brother Jim or (Jimmy) as he was known to the The Brethern not just in his Mother Lodge, in the Western District Lodges and throughout the Provice of Glasgow, but to many Lodges that he freqented on his travels both in and out the this country.

Jim was also the Lodge Provincial Representative intil shortly before his passing and was also well known at The Grand Lodge of Scotland, as he held the office of Hounary Grand Rank Of Grand Standard Bearer.

In his progression in our Lodge Brother Jim played a huge part in the purchase of our Temple at 42 Priory Rd Knightswood in his year as Master 1961-62, he told the Bretheren in one of his many lectures on how our Lodge is shaped today, and how he aqquired the two chairs that the Both Wardens use today from a Ship breakers in Bowling, Jim's stories and the real history of the Lodge were legend and sadly we fear that thismay be lost forever.
